How do I merge customers?

Combine two customer records together.

When the same customer has two records created in the database, use this routine to merge the two records into one record. The information in the Merge From customer will be saved to the Merge To customer. Then, the Merge From customer will be deleted.

Before you get started

Step 1: Print the Customer History Report

Customer history is log that can report all of the information saved in the customer file.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Accounts Receivable > Reports > Customer History.

2. Select a report title.

3. Set up the Selection Criteria to print the report for the merge from customer and the merge to customer.  

4. Click Print (CTRL+P).

The report prints. Lay the report aside. You'll need to refer to it later.

 

Step 2: Merging customers

Set up the options to merge two customer records together.

Do this...

1. Open Connect Accounts Receivable > Customers > Merge Customers.

2. Enter the Merge From customer.

The information in the Merge From customer will be saved to the Merge To customer. Then, the Merge From customer will be deleted.

What is the merge from customer number?

  • I know the customer number. Use the Merge From From field to enter the customer number that belongs to the customer record that will be copied and deleted.

  • Help me find the customer number. Click Search to find the customer number.  

3. Enter the Merge To customer.

This is the record to keep.

  • Help me find the customer number. Click Search to find the customer number.  

4. Click GO (CTRL+G).

The customer records are merged.

 

Step 3: Review the merged customer record

Use the Customer History report from Step 1 to make sure all of the information from the merge from customer are included in the merge to customer record.

What if information is missing from the merge to customer?

If information from the merge from record is missing from the merge to record, you can use Modify Existing Customers to update the customer's record. (Customers > Modify Existing Customers)
